How we Express Ourselves
The unit is an inquiry into the ways in which we
discover and express ideas,
feelings, nature, culture,
beliefs and values; the
ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our
appreciation of the aesthetic.
The central Idea is:
Powerful art engages the audience and
invites a response.
The lines of Inquiry are:
·
Forms and
elements of art,
·
How the arts
are interconnected
·
Ways in which
different people interpret the arts
We began this unit by viewing a storybook of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and then responding in writing as to how it made us feel. We learnt about many instruments in the orchestra.
Next we watched an animated version of the story which had a different setting and a slightly different ending. Children were asked to compare and contrast the two stories . We discussed how both the book and animation were one artist's response to another type of powerful art.
We also responded to the music by making our our moving shadow puppets.
