First Day Letter to Parents

2015-16

Dear Parents

Welcome to our new school year. It was wonderful to be back here in Bogor and to see so many of the ISB community at our morning assembly. On Friday I hope to introduce everyone more fully. I am looking forward to working with you and your children during the upcoming months.

This year I will again be  working with Ibu Mersy who is very experienced at working with young children of this age. She will be working with all children in our class in a variety of individual, small group and large group settings and will accompany students to various specialist classes. It looks like being another exciting year with her support in the classroom.

We will have a lot to accomplish this week, developing our class as a ‘community of learners’, building a cohesive team and learning new school and class routines. I am sure it will be a very exciting and rewarding first week.

During the first weeks of school I will be looking at how your children are coping in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This will enable me to ensure the most effective instruction for your child. We will also be developing essential agreements in class for behavioural and work habit expectations.

Today your child will bring home a book they have chosen to share with you. Please read the attached reading information letter about how best to support your child at home. I will discuss this further with you during the Open Class Event on Saturday 8th August. There is also a first draft of our class timetable. Please remember that the students need to bring: a small water bottle, to be kept at school a sunhat for outside recess Our swimming days during the dry season will be on Monday and Friday. We will use Nashya’s family pool which has a safe, shallow end with wide, receding steps into the water. Please ensure your child has: bathers/swimming costume-if possible your child can wear their swimming costume to school, under their uniform a towel flip flops or slip on sandals goggles hairband- for long hair
This week Ibu Mersy and I will accompany the children to the pool with Pak Sigit (our new PE teacher) to supervise and support. In the coming week I will be sending home our first unit of inquiry newsletter via the class blog, outlining the order and central ideas of this year’s units of inquiry. I will also share with you our final class schedule and other matters such as homework, electronics and class communication. I look forward to meeting you all during our during our first Community Brunch and Open Class event on Saturday August 8th at 10:30 and then at the upcoming “Meet and Greet” sessions in Week 2.
