Sharing The Planet

Our latest Transdisciplinary Theme is Sharing the Planet.

It is an inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

Central Idea :
Rainforests are a changing resource under threat.

Lines of Inquiry :
·         The benefits of protecting rainforests for our future (reflection)
·         Efforts to preserve rainforests (responsibility)
·         Differing perspectives on rainforest use (causation)

We began this unit with a trip to Kebun Raya to investigate all the animals and plants you can find in a rainforest. So far we have created mind maps of our trip and have also heard form Mr Tom about why rainforests are important.

NIS Visit We are Famous!

Some teachers from NIS visited our class to see the amazing word inquiry we have been doing. They were really impressed.

Dancing Sugar Experiment

We found that sound can make objects move and even make sugar dance to loud rock music.

Working together is an important skill.

Dancing sugar!

Balloon Experiment

Testing how sound travels through air.

Taman Kencana Walk

We used the local environment to help develop our awareness of what is around us and to improve our mapping skills.

Orienting ourselves

Checking the local map

Spoon Experiment

We investigated sounds and how they travel through different substances.

There is something stuck in my ears!

Treasure Map

We had to create our own set of instructions to help someone find a treasure located in the school. We had to use distance, direction and landmarks to be successful.

Hmm, maybe we're lost!

Kazoo

We made simple kazoos and then used them to test a scientific hypothesis by changing one variable. We then recorded our results.

How does this thing work?

Classroom Sounds

We created a class poem based on sounds we could hear. We then wrote our own using the same procedure. We used this to discuss verbs and adverbs.
